Christy and Sasha will be co-leading this workshop series all about the foundations of a Yoga practice. This will be a great refresher if you have practiced yoga for years, and can help bring understanding and comfort to someone who is new to yoga as well. Covering everything from Sanskrit terminology, to alignment and modifications-- you'll get a taste of breathing exercises and intention setting-- everything you need to strengthen your Yoga foundations.
You'll feel confident and comfortable in any yoga class you attend and understand the ins and outs and specifics of your own personal practice.
What can I expect to experience?
Sasha and Christy will guide you to a deeper understanding of yoga. They will introduce you to pranayama, mudras, chanting, and dive deep into each asana starting with Surya Namaskar A and B, and as the series progresses we will cover strengthening and balancing poses. For each asana (posture) we will thoroughly cover alignment and modifications, making the poses accessible for your individual needs. Christy and Sasha will offer hands on adjustments to those who are interested.
There will also be a virtual component to this course, sharing a brief introduction to the heart of yoga philosophy and its roots.
Here's what you can expect in each class-
-Pranayama (breath exercises) in each class. Breath is foundational to a deeper and meaningful yoga practice. You'll learn the foundations of breath, and get more comfortable connecting breath with movement.
-Mudras (hand postures) are a wonderful way to invite deeper meaning into your centering, meditation, and mindfulness practice. These will be accompanied by a description and an affirmation or intention for each class.
-Asana (postures) are the movements that most associate with yoga! We will be breaking down the alignment and variations for postures. We will also offer suggestions for modifications: adding blocks for varying accessibility or adding binds and ways to advance your practice.
-Surya Namaskar A + B: (Sun Salutations) These sequences are the foundational building blocks of many classes that you'll take at any studio. They are a repetitive series of postures designed to connect breath and movement and warm up the muscles and tissues. This helps the body and mind work in sync and creates a meditative state of movement in practice.
-Warm up & Cool Down - We will warm up the body and mind before the pose break down, and the cool down will include Savasana.
-Q & A
As an added bonus, plan to stay for the new intentional community-club, Heart Space, from 5p-6p. In this group we will read through books that are heart-forward, enjoy a soothing cup of tea, and embrace each other's company.
