What to expect from this workshop:
The most common type of myofascial release is done using a foam roller or a small handheld ball. The foam roller can help with flexibility, muscle recovery, overactive muscles, mobility, and pain reduction.
In this workshop, we will show you the various ways to utilize a foam roller and ball to bring release and relief to the muscles and fascia that often get neglected. This will increase the blood flow to your tissues, will improve your performance + recovery, and give you the chance to learn and explore a new form of self-care.
(We have Foam Rollers at the studio, but you're welcome to bring your own.)
What is Fascia?
Fascia is the connective tissue layer surrounding muscle, bone and joints, and gives support and protection to the body.
It is common for the tightness in fascia to be the root of the prolonged discomfort/ chronic pain in the body.
Benefits of Myofascial release:
Myofascial release is used to treat pain/ discomfort which is caused by sensitivity and tightness in the fascia.
Myofascial release will help decrease overall stress on the connective tissues, muscles, and joints.
It will reduce the soreness, correct muscle imbalance, and assist the tissues during the recovery process.
Circulation and Mobility are extremely important for our bodies, and knowing about trigger points will prevent the recovery process, and will help release tension and knots.
Whether it’s tight hips, a sore back, or headaches, knowing how to perform simple myofascial release will allow increased blood flow and recovery.
What are trigger points?
A trigger point is an area of muscle that is often painful to touch where the tissue has become thick, tough, and knotted.
Some trigger points (depending on location) can restrict or alter movements above the joints. When the trigger points are inflamed for prolonged periods, the healthy fascia is replaced with an elastic scar tissue. This leads to fatigue, chronic pain, and injury and weaker motor skills.
What causes a trigger point to form?
Physical trauma / Injury
Poor Posture
Over-training/ Overuse
Not enough rest in-between training sessions
Learning myofascial release will be beneficial for ANYONE!
Whether you’re an athlete, a yogi, a long-walker, or you sit at a desk for work, your fascia needs some release and love.
About Sasha
I started out personal training in 2009, with the goal to help accomodate and inspire strength & growth in creative ways. It didn't take long to notice stress, adrenal fatigue, and body shame was rampant amongst the people I worked with, and I began introducing & guiding my clients through meditation/mindfulness practices. Breathwork and Yoga practice shortly followed, and my teaching mentality shifted from trainer to guide.
I believe that movement is medicine, and accessibility is essential. I believe strength and mobility should go hand-in hand, which is why we need to learn more about how everything is interconnected! Our bodies are so impacted and take the brunt of our emotional, mental, and physical traumas...and so often all we need are the tools and the space to offer the body release.
