What is Zero Balancing:
Developed by Fritz Frederick Smith, MD in the early 1970s, Zero Balancing is a powerful body-mind therapy that uses skilled touch to address the relationships between energy and structures within the body. Following a protocol that typically lasts 30 – 45 minutes, the practitioner utilizes finger pressure and gentle traction on the bones and joints to create fulcrums, or points of balance, around which the body can relax and reorganize.
Zero Balancing (ZB) is powerful touch therapy for body and mind. Deeply relaxing and energizing, ZB touches your core, at the level of bone, to promote wellness and balance.
Some bodywork, such as massage, Rolfing and chiropractic, focuses primarily on improving the function of the physical body. Other modalities, such as acupuncture, Reiki and Polarity Therapy, work to enhance body energy.
A Zero Balancing practitioner consciously and actively engages BOTH body energy and body structure simultaneously – bringing them into balance within themselves and with one another. The result is greater than the sum of the parts, enabling the person on the table to feel engaged on the levels of body, mind and spirit.
Often, with Zero Balancing, both energy and physical function improve dramatically.
Zero Balancing practitioners don’t force any changes, but rather create the conditions for clients to balance themselves. Zero Balancing fulcrums deeply engage the client’s body and mind and promote rapid reorganization. Once the fulcrum is released, integration occurs.

Zero Balancing is a hands on body-mind therapy The practitioner uses finger pressure and gentle traction on areas of tension in the bones, joints and soft tissue to create fulcrums, or points of balance, around which the body can relax and reorganize.
By addressing the deepest and densest tissues of the body along with soft tissue and energy fields, Zero Balancing helps to clear chronic tension and blocks in the body’s energy flow. ZB has been shown to reduce stress, amplify vitality and promote better postural alignment.
A wide variety of health professionals offer Zero Balancing as an integral part of their practice. They include acupuncturists, chiropractors, craniosacral therapists, massage therapists, medical doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, osteopaths, physical therapists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists and others. Practitioners may be found in private practice, health and wellness centers, hospitals and spas.
ZB can also be used to help family and friends achieve an easier more balanced experience of themselves, benefiting the mind and emotions as well.
Certification as a Zero Balancing practitioner is available which begins with Zero Balancing 1 and includes 3 other classes and additional requirements.
*Additional Workshops will be available in Grand Rapids in 2021/2022 for certification.
